If you haven’t heard already, Public School 214 is coming to West Village. It’s a restaurant with an aim of bringing “An Education in the Art of Food and Beer.”

Segovia Retail Group and Restaurateur Bob Spivak of Grill Concepts, Inc. are behind the concept, with Grill Concepts’ Mike Weinstock and Kelly Architects at the design helm.

Public School will serve gastropub fare and craft beer, with “recess” for happy hour: $4, $5, $6, or $7 items such as Speck & Eggs, Parmesan Truffle Fries, and Mac & Cheese with drink specials. It will look like a classroom inside, with communal tables, booths, and patio seating. Art will include old school equipment and other scholastic touches.

Phil Kastel is the Executive Chef of Public School. He intends to serve items like Bacon Cheddar Tots with Sriracha Ketchup, Colorado Lamb Burger with Tomato Cranberry Jam, Arugula, and Brie, and Shrimp & Grafton Cheddar Grits. He said, “Food is an art. Expect to see something different at Public School 214.”

Beverage Director Rob Robertson says that 24 craft beers will be on the menu, many of them rotating with the seasons. Beer 101 classes will be held every couple of months. Sign up for “Honor Roll,” the e-mail list, to get yourself some schooling.
